Europe has an extraordinary pool of talent, researchers, and institutes that are fostering AI research in Europe and beyond. Which is why, when thinking about where to expand Facebook’s AI research centers - Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR) - we immediately looked towards Europe. Scientific advances in AI cannot be achieved in isolation. That’s why we at FAIR Paris actively engage with the research community through publications, open source software, participation in technical conferences and workshops and collaboration with colleagues in academia. We chose France because of its world-class scientists and engineers, dynamic research community and the exciting projects happening here, as well as for the opportunities it offers to bridge the gap between public and private research through programmes like CIFRE (“Industrial Agreement for Training through Research"), which enables students to do their PhD as residents of the lab.
